Presenter: Norda Bell
Are you curious or interested in learning more about your family history and your ancestors? Black History is Family History! Learn the basics of genealogical research, special considerations for tracing African Caribbean family history, and some free and fee-based tools and resources to help start your research.
By the end of this workshop, you'll have gained valuable insights and practical skills to start tracing your family history. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with your roots. This is a hands-on workshop for beginners so bring the names, birth, marriage, and/or death dates of any of your deceased ancestor (e.g., deceased parents, grandparents, great grandparents etc.) to start your research.
Warning: This session will explore sensitive topics such as slavery and the history of racial violence. Researching one’s family history may result in finding distressing content and uncovering family secrets.
Please note that the tools and techniques discussed in this workshop will be useful for anyone interested in researching their family history, but with an emphasis on African-Caribbean family history. All interested in family history are encouraged to attend.
