Highlighting Your Research Impact with Alternative Metrics Online

Presenter: Rajiv Nariani

Alternative metrics, also known as altmetrics, are qualitative data that are complementary to traditional, citation-based metrics. Altmetrics can help you monitor how your scholarly publications are being cited or discussed in policy, patents, news, and social media. The Libraries subscribe to the database, Altmetric Explorer for Institutions, which allows York researchers to easily track the altmetric attention associated with their research outputs.

Participants who register for this practical workshop will explore the following topics:

  • How to use the database, Altmetrics Explorer for Institutions, to track patent, policy, news, and social media attention associated with your research outputs, while also exploring how York research is being discussed at the global level.
  • How altmetrics can be used to enhance your CV, grant applications, presentations, or reports.

This workshop is part of the Libraries' 2025 Open Access Week programming. Participants may also be interested in completing the Libraries' virtual Research Impact Challenge (October 20, 2025 to October 24, 2025) to learn more about research impact and visibility topics.
