Information is created by different people for different reasons. For example, scholars write journal articles to share original research with other experts, while journalists write news stories to inform the public quickly. A YouTuber might make a video to entertain or influence, while a government agency might publish a report to inform policy or guide public behavior. Understanding who created the information and why helps you understand how you could use it in your academic assignments and beyond. And when you do use it, citing your sources shows where your information came from, gives credit to the original creators, and helps your readers trust your work.
