Beyond the Page: An Indigenous book and film club - Ni Naadamaadiz: Red Power Rising Online

Join us in conversation. Beyond the Page is a relaxed gathering open to all of York community members. Throughout this series we will be discussing a variety of Indigenous materials such as novels, short stories, letters and films. This month we will be discussing how land-based knowledge and community building can inspire change, with guest co-host Jolene Heida. Jolene is of Cree-Metis and Ukrainian ancestry from Northwestern Ontario. She is a PhD Candidate in the School of Social Work at York University. Her doctoral research explores traditional Indigenous knowledge and kinship frameworks as essential knowledges for the future of our climate and our communities. To prepare for this session please engage with the Ni-Naadamaadiz: Red Power Rising. This 89-minute documentary is available on CBC Gems and “tells the little-known story of how in 1974, Anishinaabe youth staged one of the first land-back occupations in Canadian history in Kenora, Ontario.”
