Join us in conversation. Beyond the Page is a relaxed gathering open to all of York community members. Throughout this series, we will be discussing a variety of Indigenous materials such as novels, short stories, letters, and films. This month, join artist and PhD researcher Laura Grier for a conversation about Dene aesthetics, contemporary Indigenous art, and the possibilities of a neo(n) Native aesthetic. Featuring the work of Diné zine-maker Amber McCrary alongside Grier’s own The Indigenous Artist’s Survival Guide to Art School, the talk explores zines, print, language, and DIY publishing as ways of making, sharing, and reimagining Indigenous artistic knowledge.
